Buddhist Cultural and Welfare Society

Buddhist Cultural and Welfare Society is a non-political, non-profit organization located in West Bengal formed by a group of like-minded, highly qualified individuals with a shared vision of preserving our nation’s heritage. Our primary focus is visiting and inspecting buddhist archaeological sites, and taking necessary actions to preserve and conserve them. To raise awareness about the importance of protecting these sites, we publish the magazine ‘Bouddha Puratatwa,’ which promotes Buddhism, architecture, art, literature, and the culture of India and helps the research works for the future. Additionally, we at Buddhist Cultural and Welfare Society are actively involved in social services aimed at public welfare, including distributing clothing to the underprivileged and providing study materials to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through these efforts, we strive to uplift the lives of tribal marginalised communities and make a positive impact on society while preserving our cultural legacy.

History

The journey of the Buddhist Cultural and Welfare Society began in 2016 under the name Buddhist Cultural Research Society by a group of passionate individuals who shared a deep respect for Buddhist heritage and a commitment to preserving it for future generations.

From its inception, the society focused on promoting awareness about Buddhist culture, literature, and history. Its founding members—scholars, researchers, and social workers—dedicated their efforts to creating a platform that would not only celebrate Buddhist heritage but also work towards its protection and promotion. Over time, the society’s activities expanded to include archaeological site visits, research support, and awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of preserving cultural treasures.

On April 13, 2021, the society took a significant step forward by formally registering under the name Buddhist Culture and Welfare Society. This registration marked a new chapter in the organization’s journey, enabling it to operate on a more structured and recognized platform.
